A LYMM residents has celebrated her remarkable 104th birthday in style.

Peggy Bentley was joined by staff, relatives and friends at Cheshire Grange in the village to celebrate this landmark birthday.

The home hosted a small tea party for Peggy and her several ‘greats’ nieces & nephews, many of whom had travelled from Yorkshire to wish Peggy a ‘Happy Birthday’.

Cllr Steve Wright, Mayor of Warrington joined the party to wish this remarkable lady Many Happy Returns and share a piece of cake.

Peggy was born in Tingley, West Yorkshire in 1920, King George V was monarch at the time, after leaving school she served in the WAF, qualifying as an officer, where she was in charge of catering.

It was while serving in the WAF she met her husband Eric who was a rear gunner in the RAF. Peggy and Eric moved to Wiltshire where she taught a little but was mainly a domestic goddess.

The birthday girl said: "104 is a very big number we’ll say I’m 21 shall we!".
