WE shared an image of the Golden Square from the 1980s and it certainly took people on a trip down memory lane.

More than 100 readers shared their memories of the shopping centre.

Here’s what they had to say:

Loved C&A, Chelsea Girl and Sayers toast, made with that lovely, uncut, thick bread, with loads of proper butter. Can anyone remember that catalogue place, a bit like Argos, not far from where this photo was taken?

Diane Warburton

Those were the days. Used to be a great place to shop, I loved going every Saturday morning.

Lynne Earle

C&A, Etams, and The Index shop were in The Mall then sadly went. I used to always shop for clothes at Chelsea Girl mainly but it too didn’t seem to last long once it moved into the mall. I used to go when it was in Sankey Street next to good old Woolies and also in Bobby Cousins. We had so many shoe and clothes shops in the town centre back then which all seemed to go once The Golden Square mall was built.

Jean Harrison

Used to clothes shop in C&A as teenager and Clockhouse and Etam, when Warrington was great for shopping.

Sheree Woolley

Warrington had a town centre. Bring back those days.

Sue Stanworth

Watched the first shuttle landing on a TV that was in one of those windows.

Gareth Roberts

Loved it. Chelsea Girl was the best.

Rachel Atkin

When Warrington was good, and you didn't have to go Manchester to do some clothes shopping.

Andrea Hope

This was when town centre was the best! Wish it was still like that- just glad that horrid bus station is gone and the newsagents at the top of the escalators.

Rachel Symonds

Shops were great, there was plenty of variety. I can remember the council announcing that there would be 60 new shops , and it wasn’t far off.

Jan Barber

Better shops then. At least it was interesting and could by decent clothes.

Rob Mace

And now you don't get that many people in the whole of Golden Square now on a Saturday.

Neil Parker

Wish we had that variety of shops now.

Julie Franks

When it was fab.

Julie Hampton Bennett

Still preferred the old town before that was built.

David Jepson

Wish it was still like this.

Beth Street

What went wrong?
