THREE former councillors have been recognised for their ‘exceptional service’ to Warrington Borough Council.

Former council leader Russ Bowden, former mayor Maureen Creaghan and former leader of the town’s Liberal Democrats Bob Barr have each been awarded the title of honorary alderman.

Mr Barr says he is ‘delighted’ to have been granted the title of honorary alderman by Warrington Borough Council to mark his 18 years of service as a councillor.

He added: “As a professional geographer I have been interested in the history of Warrington as a New Town throughout my career.

“It was this interest that motivated me to serve as a councillor and to work with the council to make Warrington the best place it could be for its residents.

“Housing has been close to my heart, and I am pleased that the council agreed unanimously to establish a housing policy committee.

“I am very grateful to my council colleagues for granting me the honour of becoming an alderman.”
