A THEATRE group completed three ‘near sell out’ performances at a community hall with a new comedy show and even were visited by its playwright.
Treading the Bored Theatre Group was created last year for amateur dramatics living in Rixton, Cadishead and Irlam to get together and stage productions.
On Saturday, June 8, the group took to the stage at Rixton Community Hall with the new production A Knight to Remember, written by Johnny Jarman who has previously worked with Russ Abbott and Little and Large.
“We are a small number of adults from all ages and backgrounds, but our members all share one interest – to perform,” said chairman, Tony Prescott.
“It is fantastic to see how our group is growing and evolving in skills and confidence.
“Commitment and diversity have allowed us to flourish as a drama group to say produces shows that the audience hopefully enjoys and remember for a long time to come.”
The troupe were the first to perform A Knight to Remember and were visited by Johnny who watched one of their performances.
“A Knight to Remember started taking shape in 2016 by mid-2017 I was in trouble,” said Johnny.
“I had built up such a ‘house of cards’ of lies, deceit, mischief and madness and I realized I didn’t have an ending.
“I put it in my drawer and let my subconscious mull over the problems of how to resolve it – after six months the ending came as a blinding flash of inspiration when I was not even thinking about it.
“I finished it, polished it up and sent it off to the publishers and now here it is being performed for the first time by the very talented Treading the Bored players, and it was absolutely fantastic, well done to all involved.”
