A BRAVE Warrington school staff member is strapping herself to the wing of a Boeing plane as it flies at more than 100 mph through the sky to raise money for a new outside area for the school.

Receptionist at Grappenhall Heys Primary, Michelle Clark, will take on the nail-biting wing walk challenge to fundraise to improve the outdoor provision at the school for all the children to enjoy.

The experience will see Michelle, 50, strapped to a rig on top of a Boeing Stearman biplane while it travels at speeds of up to 135 mph.

And if that is not terrifying enough, the aeroplane will fly to a maximum of 700ft and a minimum of 100ft on waving-runs and will complete low dives and sharp turns.

Michelle will complete the wing walk at Leeds East Airport on Saturday (June 22) and is praying for a clear day when it comes.

She will be supported by husband and two children who will admiringly watch from the runway.

The earliest documented case of wing walking was as early as 1911, but it was Army Pilot Ormer Locklear who first saw the potential commercial appeal of the activity.

A spokesperson for Grappenhall Heys Primary said: “Mrs Clark has decided that she would like to try to raise money for school and would like to ask that if you are able and willing you may like to sponsor her.

“All of the money raised will go directly to the school as the Wing Walk was paid for by Mrs Clark’s family as a 50th birthday gift.”

The donations will help to improve the outdoor provision at the school and adding some seating to the area as well.
