FIREFIGHTERS are currently tackling a blaze inside a block of flats in Orford.

Bexhill Avenue is closed as a result and a large emergency service presence is in the area.

The incident was first reported at around 1.55pm this afternoon, Sunday.

It involves a fire in the roof space of a block of flats which has been evacuated.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have taken two hose reel jets into the building and ensured all occupiers are accounted for.

“Crews are using a covering jet to fight the fire from the outside.”

Three fire engines from Warrington, Lymm, and Penketh are at the scene, plus the aerial ladder platform from Lymm.

A full road closure is in place.
