A WOOLSTON baker will be donning her apron on National Cream Tea Day to raise funds for a charity that’s close to her heart.

Jen Perry, who owns Room Forty – a mobile vintage afternoon tea emporium – will be busy in the kitchen baking scones on Friday, June 28.

Boxes of individual scones with jam and clotted cream will be sold for £3.50 with all proceeds going to the National Brain Appeal.

When she heard friend Gary Skentelbery’s heart rending story about his wife’s fight with early onset dementia, after being diagnosed at 51, Jen wanted to join the campaign to find a cure.

Jen’s own stepfather Tony passed away from dementia in December last year and she has experienced first hand the impact the disease has on the person, their family and friends.

Jen said: “I asked Gary to decide on the charity that he would like the funds raised to go to and he has selected the National Brain Appeal, as they specialise in fundraising for rare dementias.

“I will be at JD Kitchens in Padgate on Friday, June 28 so that people can collect their individually boxed scones, with pre orders closing on Wednesday, June 26.

“There will be a few boxes on the day available for collection.

“The big question is – do you go jam then cream or cream then jam?

“How do you eat your scone?”

Gary said: “I have been overwhelmed with the messages of support from friends and complete strangers and would like to say a big thank you to Jen for her very kind offer to help raise funds and awareness about these terrible conditions which are sadly becoming more common.”
