A 41-year-old man with a history of substance abuse was found dead in his room at a homeless shelter in Bewsey, an inquest heard.
On Wednesday, June 12, Cheshire Coroner’s Court heard that Peter Hogan was found unresponsive in his room at the shelter on Lovely Lane on February 3.
Attempts to resuscitate Mr Hogan were unsuccessful and paramedics certified his death at the scene.
The court heard that Mr Hogan had a history of opiate and benzodiazepine dependence, as well as illicit substance abuse.
A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Hogan had high concentrations of methadone, heroin, morphine and cocaine in his blood at the time of his death.
The court heard that Mr Hogan’s death was attributed to cardiorespiratory failure due to the combined toxicity of the drugs in his system and left ventricular hypertrophy.
Senior Coroner Jacqueline Devonish concluded that Mr Hogan’s death was therefore a combination of an accidental, acute drugs overdose and natural disease.
