A 52-year-old woman was killed on the M6 motorway after being struck by a vehicle on April 9, an inquest heard.

The inquest into the death of Lisa Kelsall, from Stoke-on-Trent, was formally opened by Coroner Jaqueline Devonish at Cheshire Coroners Court on Wednesday morning.

The court heard that following a concern for welfare call, Cheshire Police officers attended an incident on the M6 northbound.

Ms Kelsall, also known as Ms Lang, was spotted walking along the M6 to M62 slip road, outside Warrington, before being struck by a vehicle.

Paramedics found Ms Kelsall in a motorway lane and pronounced her dead at the scene at 1.14am.

A 47-year-old man from Preston was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

“A loving daughter, mother and grandmother-to-be, taken too soon, RIP Lisa Kelsall. Forever in our hearts,” read a statement issued by her family after her death.

An inquest into Ms Kelsall’s death has been formally opened and will be heard on October 31.
