A SUCCESSFUL appeal for specialised dog food from an animal shelter in Warrington has ensured a 'long-term resident' has a full tummy once again.

Warrington Animal Welfare thanked the community for all the generous donations of 'Wolf' dog food, needed for one of its loveable residents at the shelter, Bear.

In a recent post, the shelter said: "Massive thanks to everyone who responded to our plea for special Wolf dog food for our long-term resident, Bear.

"We were overwhelmed with your response and he now has full cupboards and an even fuller tummy."

Bear, a Spanish Mastiff, is still waiting for his 'forever home' WAW stated.

He is a four-year-old extra large male dog who has been 'in and out of rescue' since being born in Spain.

Detailing his background, a spokesperson for WAW said: "He was originally rehomed and was very happy, but sadly the couple split, and neither were able to take him."

They added: "Bear is a fabulous XL dog who ideally needs a quiet rural home or a home where there is enough room for him to stretch his long limbs and lots of rural areas close by to walk him.

"Bear will pull on the lead especially, if he sees a squirrel or a cat - so his new family need to be strong and active."

The fluffy canine is suited to a patient owner who has experience of looking after large breeds of dog.

He loves playing with other large breeds of dog but is better suited to a home with no other animals as he can be dominant.

"We have tried Bear in a number of traditional domestic settings but it hasn't worked out, but despite this, this poor boy needs a chance of stability," the shelter added.
