THE number of criminal incidents reported in Warrington has risen over the past month.

This is according to new data released for April 2024 – the latest period for which data released by the Home Office is available.

The town saw an overall rise in reported incidents of crime, with monthly data also including the number of crimes reported on each street in the town.

As per the figures released on Police.uk – which is run by the Home Office – 1,359 crimes were reported across the town in April.

There is a discrepancy with the figures due to the fact that the police log ‘reported crimes’, which means that some crimes that went unreported will not be in the figures.

Equally, some crimes may have been reported more than once.

The figures show the number of reported crimes in April was up 20 from March, when reports stood at 1,329 – but fell compared to the 1,557 reported in April 2023.

Across Warrington, the streets with the most crimes reported in April were:

  • Hollins Lane – 16
  • Bridge Foot – 11
  • Birch Avenue – 10
  • Chapel Yard – 10
  • Patten Lane – 10
  • Tilley Street – 10

In terms of crimes reported from public areas, April’s figures were as follows:

  • Supermarket – 70
  • Parking area – 59
  • Shopping area – 43
  • Petrol station – 26
  • Hospital – 14
  • Police station – 13
  • Nightclub – 12
  • Prison – 9
  • Further or higher educational building – 4
  • Park or open space – 3
  • Sports or recreation area – 2

While some categories of crime rose in April compared to the previous month, others fell.

Violent and sexual offences continue to be the most prevalent type of crime in Warrington with 588 reports in March, which was down from 592 in March.

This is followed by anti-social behaviour – up to 176 from 136 – the shoplifting, public disorder and ‘other theft’.

Overall, anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and arson, other crime, possession of weapons, public disorder and theft from a person offences were up.

But bicycle theft, burglary, drugs, robbery, shoplifting vehicle crime and violent and sexual offences were all down.

In terms of the outcomes of these reports, 560 remain under investigation, according to the data, while 78 are awaiting action.

However, 593 resulted in no prosecution, for reasons such as no suspect being identified, being unable to prosecute a suspect and further action not being in the public interest.
