A SEAL was spotted in the River Mersey by a resident who had been keeping an eye out for one for seven months.

Adrianna Czachor, 27, moved into her flat near Bank Quay that overlooks the river in December last year with her partner, Matt.

When they moved in, they were told by previous tenants that they should keep an eye out for seals, as they had spotted one in the river last year.

“We wondered and joked that maybe this is the seals vacation spot,” said Adrianna.

“When the last tenants told us about the seal last year, we didn’t really take it seriously – we took that information with a grain of salt as I was pretty sure that the Mersey was declared biologically dead.”

Despite the fact the couple didn’t think they would actually see one, they decided to keep an eye out as Adrianna’s niece, Frania, asked about the seal every time she visited.

Then yesterday, Saturday, at around 5.30pm Adrianna and Matt finally caught a glimpse of one.

“We finally spotted it and made sure to let my niece know that the seal is back and took a photo of it,” she said.

“Now I wonder if this is going to be a yearly occurrence.”
