TWO suspects have been arrested over the supply of drugs and throwing illicit substances into a Warrington prison.

The arrests were made last week near to HM Prison Risley after suspicious activity was reported.

Police dogs were sent to the scene and packages suspected to contain drugs have been successfully recovered.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Two people have been arrested after a man was seen to throw items into the grounds of HMP Risley.

“At 5.41pm on Thursday, May 30, police were called to the prison on Warrington Road following reports of suspicious activity.

“A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of throwing an article or substance into a prison.

“A search of the area was made by police dogs from the Alliance team, and packages suspected to be drugs were located and seized.

“Further enquiries led to a 25-year-old woman being arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

“Both have been bailed pending further enquiries.”

Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs Unit added: “The girls have been busy this week.

“PD Sansa searched an area after a man had been arrested for attempting to convey drugs into prison.

“Sansa located a large amount of drugs that had been well hidden in a wooded area.

“PD Skye searched the area where a man had been arrested following a series of knifepoint robberies.

“Skye located vital evidence relating to the crime that the man had attempted to hide prior to his arrest.”
