A COUPLE from Latchford will be collecting flowers to take with them to pay tribute to Rob Burrow tonight, Monday.
Roxy and Rob Jones, who are Warrington Wolves fans, will be stood outside the Halliwell Jones Stadium between 4pm and 5.30pm.
The husband and wife hope to collect as many bunches of flowers as possible to lay at the tribute to Burrow outside Headingley Stadium.
It comes after the sad news yesterday, Sunday, that the rugby league legend had died aged 41.
Burrow, the Great Britain international who spent his 17-year career with Leeds Rhinos player, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019, having retired in 2017.
“I was gutted when I found out. I think everybody was in the rugby world,” said Rob Jones.
“I’ve supported Warrington all my life, and obviously Rob was a great player and I grew up watching him, so it’s a shame what’s happened.”
Rob and Roxy will be standing outside the Warrington Wolves club shop at Halliwell Jones Stadium before taking any flowers over to the tribute at Headingley this evening.
Fans started laying flowers and rugby shirts at the South Stand of the stadium yesterday.
“It’s mainly for people that don’t drive or wanted to put flowers at Headingley,” said Rob.
“The more flowers the merrier – we hope for hundreds or thousands, or however many we can fit in the car.
“If people want to come along to the tribute, pull up your cars.”
Warrington Wolves was among the teams that paid a tribute to Burrow on social media over the weekend.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to Rob’s family, friends and everyone connected with Leeds Rhinos at this heartbreaking time,” the post read.
“Rob fought his battle with immense strength and dignity.
“His bravery and what he did for the MND community will never be forgotten.”
If you would like to add flowers to the tribute, head over to the Halliwell Jones Stadium between 4pm and 5.30pm to meet Rob and Roxy, who will transport the tributes over this evening.
