PUPILS took part in a sponsored walk, raising more than £1,000 for a homeless charity in Warrington.

Staff at St Augustine's Primary in Latchford East celebrated the ‘overwhelming response’ they have received after completing the sponsored walk – which saw all pupils in the school take part in.

The walk was organised to raise funds for town centre homeless charity Room at the Inn.

Based on Winmarleigh Street, the charity provides daytime services and support for people who are homeless and vulnerable.

It was opened after the closure of the Warrington YMCA and works as a walk-in centre, assisting in providing food and drink, shower facilities and clothing and sleeping bags.

As well as food bank vouchers and support with housing applications and accessing local services.

St Augustine’s raised just short of £2,000 for the charity following the event.

A spokesperson for the school said: “We have been overwhelmed by the fantastic response to our sponsored walk to raise much needed funds for this worthy charity who aim to support those who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

“Through your amazing kindness and compassion for others, we have been able to raise an unbelievable £1962.

“This will have a massive impact on so many people in our local community.”
