A MAJOR charity event in Warrington could be axed if more volunteers do not come forward.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life and Pretty Muddy events this June are in desperate need of more helpers and the charity is urging more people to volunteer.

The charity’s much-loved events, ran in partnership with sponsor Standard Life, raises millions of pounds every year across the UK in its mission to help beat cancer by funding crucial research.

This year’s event in Warrington, held at Victoria Park, takes place on Sunday, June 16.

However, the Pretty Muddy element of the event is under threat of not being able to take place due to the small number of volunteers currently signed up to support on the day.

And the charity is making an urgent appeal for more volunteers.

Cancer Research UK events manager Richard Healey said: “We are struggling to recruit volunteers to help us on the day.

“Without sufficient numbers, we will be unable to open the 11 obstacles, which means we would not be able to run the Pretty Muddy part of our event.

“With over 1,500 people currently signed up to take part in Pretty Muddy alone, this will result in a huge amount of money not going towards our important research.”

Anyone who is able to support the event, whether it is for the whole day or just a couple of hours, is encouraged to sign up online by visiting: cancerresearchuk.org/get-involved/volunteer.

Each year, around 44,700 people are diagnosed with cancer in the north west.

Money raised at Race for Life enables scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
