A SUSPECT has been named by courts after being charged with burgling a pub.

It follows an incident on March 21 at The Poplars pub in Orford.

Cheshire Police attended the premises after receiving reports of a burglary.

A suspect is now due to appear before the courts having been charged in connection with the incident.

Andrew Morgan has been charged with burglary other than a dwelling with intent to steal.

The particulars of the charge allege that the 57-year-old entered the Cotswold Road building as a trespasser with intent to steal.

His address is given on court documents as no fixed abode, but of College Street in St Helens town centre.

Morgan is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charge before Warrington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Wednesday.

It comes after plans were submitted in March to demolish the building and build 14 homes in its place.

The pub went up for sale in February last year for £425,000 after closing, and a plan submitted by K & L Properties Ltd proposes building 14 new houses – with 32 parking spaces.

The new homes would be arranged into three blocks, each have three bedrooms and a five-person occupancy.

Electronic vehicle charging points have also been proposed for each dwelling.

The application has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council and is awaiting approval.
