A WARRINGTON tradesman appeared before the court after dumping business waste in a residential communal bin.

Craig Hutchinson, of Silverdale Road, Lower Walton, was sentenced for the offence at Warrington Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.

It comes following an investigation by Warrington Borough Council after it received reports of commercial rubbish being disposed of in a residential communal bin area at Greenings Court, just off Battersby Lane.

The incident was connected with Hutchinson who claimed he was carrying work out on behalf of a local resident and admitted he had disposed of the waste incorrectly by using residential bins nearby.

The 49-year-old was handed a fine by magistrates and must also pay a surcharge.

Cllr John Kerr-Brown, cabinet member for environment and public protection said: “Business waste should not be disposed of in residential bins.

"Businesses should have their own waste disposal arrangements in place, including contracts with waste management companies for proper collection, disposal and recycling of their waste.

“Residential bins are meant for household waste. Mixing business waste with residential waste can lead to issues such as overflowing bins, contamination, and bins being unable to be collected because of their contents."
