NEW parking rules will come into force at a Warrington beauty spot to prevent problem parking.

Drivers are avoiding charges at Walton Gardens by using car parks in the nearby Crematorium and golf course.

Now council chiefs say they will bring in restrictions to stop the practice.

A council spokesman said: "There are two car parks located within close proximity to Walton Hall Pay and Display car park. These car parks provide parking for Walton Golf Course and Walton Crematorium. They are free to use permitting an unlimited duration of stay.

"This allows for a minority of motorists to park for free on either Walton Golf Course or Walton Crematorium car parks whilst visiting Walton Hall Gardens without paying for a parking session."

The council is therefore bring in restrictions.

At Walton Crematorium, parking will be cut to one hour maximum duration of stay with no return for two hours on weekends and bank holidays. Parking would continue to be unlimited Monday to Friday.

Parking charges are to be introduced at the same levels as Walton Hall Gardens car park at the gold course.

If approved a pay and display machine would be located in the car park and a pay and display ticket would be issued on purchase of parking time along with a voucher.

Anyone paying to play golf would get parking costs refunded by presenting the voucher when paying for green fees.
