A PRIMARY school in Warrington is holding an eco-friendly balloon race with cash prizes up for grabs.
The event is being held by Stockton Heath Primary School’s PTA in conjunction with World Environment Day.
The race will be via an online platform which will launch on June 5 and will run for seven days.
The race winner will be dependant on the shape of the balloon, the amount of helium, and the balloon density.
The winner will receive £50 cash while second place will receive £30 and third place will receive £20. The prize sponsorship has come from The Environment Partnership.
Eco councillors from the school are helping to lead the project which is aiming to promote the overall safety of the environment and wildlife.
It comes after the eco councillors have recently been raising awareness of recycling in schools.
This has resulted in new recycling bins being purchased for every room in the building, encouraging youngsters to take responsibility for what is being recycled at the site.
It will cost £3 per balloon to enter the race. Funds raised will go towards the school’s natural play area and outdoor playground environment.
