Chris Persoglio is executive director of Culture Warrington.
Here he talks us through the highlights of the coming months at Pyramid and Parr Hall
It feels like there’s not been much time to take a breath recently. But that’s how we like it at Pyramid and Parr Hall.
Hosting popular events, that bring everyone together, is what we do week-in, week-out here and I don’t think we’ll ever tire of that.
However, it’s good to pause and take a moment to write this because a lot has been happening behind-the-scenes.
So, with that in mind, I’d like to share with you a little about my new job. I’ve recently been appointed as the new Executive Director of Culture Warrington – the charity that runs Pyramid and Parr Hall – after more than 10 years as Venue and Events Manager.
It’s a pleasure and a privilege to take on this role because I’ve worked for the company since its conception. I know our venues inside out, we have a great team and there’s so much to look back on and be proud of – hosting events over the years with everyone from Liam Gallagher to Peter Kay. We have some really exciting plans going forward and I'm very much looking forward to leading the organisation through this new chapter. More on that soon.
In the meantime, you can find below some of our upcoming event highlights now that we have rolled into our spring and summer programme. Thank you, as always, to those who attend our shows. Pyramid and Parr Hall are community venues first and foremost and we couldn’t do it without the support of people in Warrington.
Ed Byrne, Sunday, May 12
We love having Ed at Parr Hall. The Irish comedian has graced our stage on multiple occasions over the years but it’s a bit of a different show this time around. Ed sadly lost his younger brother, Paul, in 2022 and in ‘Tragedy Plus Time’ he will explore his relationship with his sibling and the importance of holding your loved ones close.
This poignant and personal performance will make you laugh, make you think and might even make you shed a few tears.
The Drifters, Friday, May 24
These absolute legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are behind timeless classics like Stand By Me, Under the Boardwalk and Save The Last Dance For Me. It was a sell-out smash last time so we’re delighted to bring The Drifters back to Warrington by popular demand. We’re on course for another full house on 24 May so grab the last tickets while you can.
Warrington Music Festival, Saturday, May 25, from midday
Not a Pyramid and Parr Hall show, but Warrington Music Fest deserves a mention as it’s a free, community focused event that Culture Warrington is a key part of. I’m really looking forward to it. As a musician myself, I am extremely passionate about the grassroots music scene in Warrington and I'm pleased we have been able to give emerging artists in the area a professional platform to perform and showcase their work. This year the festival is bigger and better with two stages at Golden Square and Time Square so, if you’re free, why not come down to the town centre, give the performers your support and make a day of it?
Russell Crowe’s Indoor Garden Party, Thursday, 4 July
It’s not every day that you get a Hollywood legend coming to Warrington is it? We’re so excited about this one. In between filming commitments, Russell Crowe (yes, THAT Russell Crowe) has been working behind-the-scenes with a band called The Gentlemen Barbers for a special series of shows spanning folk, pop, soul and rock.
It’s not just a gig but more of a spectacle with lots of surprises in store, or as Russell puts it: “A festival where I gather people I admire, musicians and storytellers, and we put on a show.” Not to be missed.
An Evening with the Cast of Quadrophenia, Friday, July 19
Can you believe it’s been 45 years since this cult classic made waves? Loosely based on The Who’s rock opera concept album of the same name, Quadrophenia was released in 1979 and was met with popular and critical acclaim for its gritty portrayal of teenage life during the era of the Mods and the Rockers. In July, five members of the original cast will be reuniting to share their experiences and behind-the-scenes stories of making Quadrophenia and explore the hit film’s impact and enduring legacy. A must for any fan.
