NATIONAL Highways have announced that there will be overnight closures on the M6 next week as part of resurfacing works upgrade the motorway.

New emergency areas, technology and a lane in each direction are due to be added to the M6, as well as resurfacing works.

Due to the size of the equipment required to resurface the road, a series of overnight closures has been announced.

The road will be closed between the hours of 9pm to 6am in stages over the next few weeks.

Northbound junctions 21a, at Croft, to 22, at Winwick, will be closed on Friday, May 10, Wednesday 15, Thursday 16, Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30.

Southbound, the same junctions will be closed on Thursday, May 9 and Monday 13.

On Wednesday and Thursday next week, northbound junctions 22 and 23, at Haydock, will be closed overnight, with a following closure planned for Tuesday, May 14.

Junctions 23 to 22 southbound are set to be closed on 10 different dates, starting next week.

The M6 between these junctions will first close on Friday, May 10, then closing on the next week on Thursday, May 16.

Towards the end of the month, these southbound junctions will also be closed between Monday, May 20 to Thursday, May 23.

Finally, junctions 23 to 22 will be closed overnight between Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31.

Further closures will take place on between junctions 23 to 26,at Skelmersdale, northbound on Monday, May 13, and then southbound on Tuesday and Wednesday next week and on Wednesday, May 15.
