PLANS have been taken off the table to build homes on the site of stables in south Warrington.
Plans had been submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department for The Livery Stables in Thelwall.
These were for the proposed demolition of existing buildings at the Lymm Road site and the erection of eight homes, with new access from the highway and landscaping.
But applicant Calore Homes Ltd has now withdrawn the application, which was classed as green belt and would have seen eight four-bedroom-plus homes built.
Planning documents stated: “We believe the submitted plans demonstrate it is possible to create a high-quality, unique development with considerable architectural merit, which is both well considered and viable.
“In addition, we believe the proposed development can make a positive contribution to the area without adversely affecting the amenity of any neighbouring properties.
“The development proposals provide communities and future generations to meet their own needs.”
One objection read: “The proposal will cause a build-up of traffic, noise pollution and disturbance to area, with a lot of animals and wildlife, along with issues with the junctions on Lymm Road as a popular bus route and route of horses.
“A renovation would make sense, but a full demolition would cause numerous issues on a road which is already prone to flooding most months of the year.”
Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council also objected, stating: “While we accept that the site comprises previously developed land, both spatially and visually the proposed development would have a greater impact on the openness of the green belt than the existing development on the site.
“Accordingly, it considers that the proposed development would comprise inappropriate development in the green belt.
“The council considers no very special circumstances have been demonstrated to exist to outweigh this harm.”
The objection added concerns over the scheme failing to preserve the character and appearance of the village, harming the setting of the adjacent grade II-listed building, impact on bats, flooding and light pollution.
