A NEW planning application has been submitted to develop the empty Dawsons Music building on Sankey Street into apartments and bedsits, after the previous one was refused by Warrington Borough Council.
The application, which was submitted to Warrington Borough Council last week, outlines the intended internal alterations to the building to create nine new homes.
Previously, an application was submitted to create 10 apartments and bedsits inside the building but was refused.
In refusing the plans, the council said: “The conversion of a class E premises to apartments does not fall within the permitted development.
“This by reason that it has not been demonstrated that apartments five and six would receive an adequate level of natural light to habitable rooms.”
The floorplan for the new application shows three bedsits and six apartments across two storeys.
The building was previously Dawsons Music but has been empty since 2019.
Before it can be developed into a residential, a planning application must be submitted to change the use of the building from commercial.
Warrington Borough Council is now deliberating the new application and will decide whether to approve the plans by May 17.
