A GROUP of year nine students from Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School are celebrating after winning a challenge set by United Utilities.
For the past 20 weeks, a team of year nine students at the Latchford school have been working on the engineering masterclass project run by United Utilities and TCAT (The Challenge Academy Trust), supported by science teacher Andy Caine.
The competition brief was to design a new community centre in the Lake District, taking into account a full environmental impact assessment, water and electricity supply, design of the building and to scale floor plans, what the centre will provide and how the local and tourist communities benefit from the building all within the range.
The judgement of the competition took place on Friday at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
“Our students were, and are, incredible," said head teacher Beverley Scott-Herron.
