RADIO Warrington have welcomed a new group of radio DJs to host a special show that was recorded at their care home.
Residents at Latchford-based dementia specialist care home, Belong, enlisted the help of Radio Warrington to create their own hour-long programme.
The special episode for World Amateur Radio Day will be aired on Radio Warrington tonight at 9pm and on Sunday, April 21 at 11am.
Lead by presenters Andy Green and Brian Spooner, the residents enjoyed a masterclass in all things radio, followed by interviews and the opportunity to put their skills to the test and introduce their favourite songs.
“Our aspiring DJs loved the chance to be involved with this experience and learn something new,” said Louise Kelly, experience coordinator at Belong Warrington.
“Radio has played a big role throughout their lives and so to hear themselves on the airwaves will be a joyous moment for all of us."
Andy and Brian also donated a DAB radio to the care home so that residents will be able to hear themselves live on air tonight.
“Like Belong, we’re also not-for-profit and as a community station, we love to engage with the community,” said Andy.
“It was good to learn that our locally focussed programmes are appreciated by Belong’s residents who said they love to be kept updated with what’s going on in the town.
“We’re grateful for their help recording our special show for World Amateur Radio Day.”
