GREAT Sankey firm, United Utilities, have launched a campaign to help customers save money.
United Utilities provides water and wastewater services across the north west and its recent campaign has encouraged more than 40,000 customers to switch to a water meter.
The water company has been reminding customers that using a water meter could help them save an average of £120 a year.
“For the past few months, we have been reminding customers that they can often make a substantial saving on their water bill by switching to a meter,” said Emma McCabe, water efficiency manager at United Utilities.
“As we give customers the opportunity to trial a meter before they commit to keeping it, there isn’t anything to lose.”
United Utilities, which provides for around three million homes, offers a lowest bill guarantee, giving customers the option to trial a water meter for two years to ensure that a meter is the best option for them.
Water meters, which aren’t much bigger than a tin of beans, measure how much water a household uses and helps water suppliers charge based on how much a household is actually using – rather than a standard monthly bill.
“During the first two years, we compare the water meter charged against what the customer would pay on a rateable value, and they are only charged the lowest amount,” said Emma.
“At the end of the two-year trial, we confirm if they’ve saved money on the meter and then can decide whether to stay on it permanently or revert back to bills based on rateable value, there’s nothing to lose.”
