A BROKEN drain left a tenant in Birchwood surrounded by other people’s waste water and excrement after a specialist did not attend the property for two days.
Andrew Cameron, 55, noticed that a waste pipe in his ground floor flat was leaking on Wednesday, March 20 due to a blocked drain outside the property in Birchwood.
Your Housing Group, which manages the property, sent someone to Andrew’s address to assess the situation and informed him that a drain specialist would be with him within 24 hours.
While the drain remained blocked, his flat filled with waste water from peoples’ baths and sinks, as well as excrement from his neighbour’s toilets.
Andrew waited for a someone to arrive but was left with a flooded home for two days as a specialist failed to show up.
Andrew, who works as a cleaner, had to mop the floors of his home and remove the waste, all while trying to contact Your Housing to resolve the issue.
“My flat was now in a disgusting state and my living conditions were a health risk,” he said.
When he called the housing group again on Friday, March 22, he insisted that a specialist was sent to attend the property.
Your Housing have since sent a specialist to the property and unblock the drain at the Birchwood property and resolve the issue.
“Our plumber attended Mr Cameron’s home to investigate a blocked drain on the 20th of March, however they were unable to carry out the full repair due to a specialist being needed,” said Aaron Hammersley, head of housing at Your Housing Group.
“Unfortunately, it did take a further two days for our contractor to attend and resolve the blockage.
“We sincerely apologise for the condition that this left Mr Cameron living in.
“We have tried to reach out to Mr Cameron to extend out apologies and discuss how we can put right any subsequent issues caused by this.
“It is our priority that our customers have a safe and comfortable place to live, and we will be looking into the cause of the delay as part of our ongoing commitment to improving our services to customers.”
