A THELWALL resident will participate in a prestigious concert to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of the world’s most renowned composers.
Pete Gilberts, a local author and member of the Manchester Chorale, will be part of the supporting choir at Sir Karl Jenkins’ 80th sell-out birthday concert at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
The celebratory event will take place on April 14 for the Welsh musician, who according to Classic FM is ‘one of the most performed living composers in the world’.
Jenkins most well-known pieces are Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary and The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.
Author, Pete Gilberts ahead of the performance said: "As a founder member of Manchester Chorale in 1979 I'm a regular tenor chorister for their many Bridgewater Hall engagements.
“This will be the sixth occasion that I've taken part in Sir Karl's concerts over the last several years, including one at the impressive Birmingham Symphony Hall.
“The concert programme includes many of the usual favourites and extracts from his newly acclaimed work 'One World', which we are currently rehearsing.
“So, it's a happy 80th birthday to Sir Karl with a guarantee that the Manchester Chorale will have more than sufficient gusto to blow his candles out.”
