STARSAILOR played a special homecoming show at Parr Hall in front of more than 1,000 revellers on Friday to coincide with the release of their first record in seven years.
The indie rock band – whose founding members, bassist James ‘Stel’ Stelfox and drummer Ben Byrne, are from Warrington – chose the historic Palmyra Square venue for their album launch party.
The atmospheric gig quickly sold out upon its announcement and the crowd were among the first to hear new tracks from their sixth studio release, Where The Wild Things Grow, performed live.
Fans were also treated to favourites, including the top-10 hits, Alcoholic and Silence is Easy.
Starsailor were formed when former St Oswald’s Primary School pupils Ben Byrne and James 'Stel' Stelfox met James Walsh and Barry Westhead at Wigan and Leigh Music School.
An NME review of one of their gigs then led to a bidding war by record labels in 2000.
Now – almost 25 years on – they have truly stood the test of time with the same four friends fronting the band.
