FOUR people have been named by the courts after being charged with conveying prohibited items into prison.
Two women and two men are alleged to have been involved in the entrance of banned articles into HM Prison Risley.
The two women are Amy Portwood, aged 41 and of Hughes Avenue in Orford, and Adrienne Juniper, aged 35 and of St Helens Road in Leigh.
They face two charges each of conveying list A and list B prohibited articles into the Warrington Road prison between December 2021 and January 2022.
The pair have also been charged with five charges each of possessing with intent to supply quantities of illegal drugs, ranging from class A to C.
These are all alleged to have been committed in Warrington in January 2022, with the drugs being cocaine, heroin, cannabis, cannabis resin and anabolic steroids.
The two men charged are Philip Phythian, aged 33 and of HM Prison Hindley, and Darren McAndrew, aged 40 and of HM Prison Forrest Bank in Salford.
They also each face two charges each of conveying list A and list B prohibited articles into the Warrington Road prison between December 2021 and January 2022.
The duo do not face drug supply charges, but they have both each been charged with possessing a specified item inside a prison without authority.
For both, the allegation is that they were in possession of a mobile phone in HMP Risley in January 2022.
All four defendants were due to make a first appearance in relation to the charges before Warrington Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday.
