OMD rolled back the years with a sell-out gig at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool last night, Sunday.
The iconic 80s band’s Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys displayed all the vitality and vigour of yesteryear, with McCluskey’s voice appearing to lose nothing over the ages.
From song one the crowd were out of their seats dancing, with Messages setting the scene for their gig, across the Mersey from their native Wirral.
With the pair exchanging banter about Humphreys being from ‘posh’ Wirral, the band went through their repertoire of anthems.
This included Locomotion, Joan of Arc and Tesla Girls, with a sprinkling of new material, with Bauhaus Staircase still having the traditional synth sound.
The 50-somethings in the crowd lapped up McCluskey’s trademark ‘windmill arms’ high energy dancing.
Humphreys performed Forever (Live and Die) brilliantly.
McCluskey said it had been 45 years since their first hit, when they performed at Erics’s in the city centre, then the arena erupted to the massive hit Enola Gay.
With the masses begging for an encore, they duly returned to perform another big hit, Electricity.
I’m certain everyone watching can confirm this band still has plenty of that.
