A WOMAN has been charged in connection with dog attacks at a park last year.

The Guardian reported last August after women and dogs were attacked by XL Bully dogs at Willow Park, in Newton-le-Willows.

The attacks reportedly took place on August 17, 2023.

Police have confirmed that they have charged a 44-year-old woman in connection with the alleged attacks.

Amanda Wilkie, of Southworth Road, Newton-le-Willows, has been charged with two counts of being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control and two counts of being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control. 

The charges relate to two different XL Bully dogs that were involved in the incident.

Wilkie will appear at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a woman has been charged in connection with dog attacks in Newton-le-Willows last year.

"At around 6pm on Thursday, August 17, 2023, a report was received of two dogs being out of control in Willow Park, resulting in injuries to dogs and people.

"Amanda Wilkie, 44, of Southworth Road, has been charged with four counts of owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control (two) causing injury.

"Wilkie will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, Derby Square, today, Wednesday, February 28."
