A WOMAN who found out she has stage three ovarian cancer at just 33 is determined to make a difference to others.

And she will host a charity auction night in the summer at Birchwood Golf Club.

Shanie Thomas, a cancer survivor, will host the auction evening in June to raise awareness of ovarian cancer and raise money for the cancer charity Ovacome.

The Birchwood resident was diagnosed with the disease at the young age of 33 and it was found to be stage three cancer.

Speaking on her experience, she said: “At the time I knew practically nothing about the disease.

“I am now thankfully recovered and want the same outcome for other women facing this disease throughout the region and to prove a diagnosis is not always the end.”

Shanie added the statistics for long-term survival of ovarian cancer are ‘very low and can seem pretty hopeless’.

She has decided she wants to make a difference to others by embarking on a string of fundraising events for the charity.

The first one being the charity auction night which will take place on June 29.

Shanie is appealing for any help or kind donations of auction prizes that can be used for the event.

“I have already had some fab donations of signed football shirts and free meals but the more prizes I have the more money I can raise.

“I know that our region is full of great people in business and many of them have already come together and supported me,” she said.

As well as this, Shanie will also be tackling the climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with her husband Daryl at the end of the year, in a bid to raise more funds for the charity.
