A WARGRAVE Primary student won a competition to walk out as a mascot for Liverpool FC as part of an upcoming Premier League game.
Freddie Shuttleworth, 10, won the opportunity through local club Newton-le-Willows FC – and will walk out alongside the players for their match against Brighton at Anfield on March 31.
Freddie was one of 136 players from Newton-le-Willows’ 38 teams to apply and was selected by a random draw held earlier this month.
The opportunity was offered to Newton-le-Willows FC due to their position as a ‘Nike partner club’.
The 10-year-old Liverpool fan hopes to walk out alongside his favourite player – Darwin Nunez.
Andrew Tither, chairman of Newton-le-Willows FC, said: “It was fantastic to be able to offer the opportunity of being a Liverpool mascot to our members free of charge; we are grateful to Vesey for this privilege as part of being a Nike partner club.
“In total we had 136 players from our 38 teams at the club that applied, Freddie was the lucky name drawn at our team reps meeting.
“On a personal note, I am delighted for Freddie, who has been with Newton-le-Willows FC from an early age at our Academy and now is a fantastic player for our U10 Athletic team.
“He is not only a great player but a great person too who is always well mannered with a smile on his face.
“When not in a Newton kit, he will no doubt be in a Liverpool one, so it's brilliant to help make a young players dream come true.”
