THE inquest into the death of Brianna Ghey has been reopened.

Brianna died aged just 16 after being stabbed 28 times in Culceth Linear Park on February 11 last year.

Earlier this month, Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were handed life sentences for her murder.

Jenkinson and Ratcliffe, who were both 15 at the time of the attack, will have to serve a minimum of 22 years and 20 years respectively.

Sentencing them on February 2, Justice Amanda Yipp said: "You both took park in a brutal and planned murder which was sadistic in nature and motivated by her transgender identity.

"It is plain this was a murder of particularly high seriousness leading to a starting point of 20 years."

Today, Wednesday (February 28), senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish formally resumed the inquest into Brianna's death.

A pre-inquest review will take place on April 11.

The full inquest is due to take place at the new Cheshire Coroners Court on Museum Street in Warrington.

It will begin on October 23, 2024, and is scheduled to last for three days.
