A WARRINGTON primary school is seeking permission to install hundreds of solar panels on its roof.
Plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council’s planning department seeking prior approval permission for the scheme.
This is for the installation of roof-mounted solar panels at Bruche Primary School, on Seymour Drive in Padgate.
Applicant Solar Options for Schools, working with Warrington Primary Academy Trust, is looking to fit 339 solar modules, with a total generating capacity of 146kWp.
Planning documents state: “The proposed installation is for all the flat roofs on the primary school building with panels positioned to the south.
“The school is completely separated from neighbouring and residential properties because of the amount of land it occupies. Besides this the perimeter of the school building is lined with large trees.
“The possibility of the proposed installation being seen is none, which makes it almost impossible to affect the amenity of the area.
“The solar panels would be of a standard design and appearance, coated with anti-glare and proposed to run in rows positioned to the south and nearest south.
“It is considered that the proposed installation would only enhance the school building and appeal of being a modern learning centre looking towards the future and creating a vision of sustainability for students.”
The plans will be decided on by the council in due course.
