PLANS for an ‘acceptable’ extension at a Great Sankey primary school have been approved.
An application proposing a new infill extension to the east side of the building within an existing alcove – at Park Road Community Primary School, on Wroxham Road – came before the development management committee on Thursday.
It was approved, subject to conditions, with delegated authority given to the development manager to make non-material changes to planning conditions and reasons as may be necessary prior to the issue of the decision.
A report to the committee said: “The proposal is for a single storey extension to the existing east facing elevation of the school and would enclose an area situated in an alcove and already within the built envelope of the school to create a breakout space for teaching activities intended for use by the classrooms situated to either side.
“There would be no increase in pupil numbers as a result of the proposal.
“The proposed extension would be single storey in nature and would provide 25.6m² of additional indoor space. The proposal would necessitate the removal of a canopy roof and would enclose the space with upvc glazing and base panels to match existing.
“A new pitched roof would be created which would continue the existing pitched roof line up to a maximum height of 4.7m with the additional of matching fascia and a vertical extension to an existing external brick wall in order to support the proposed roof on the north side of the alcove.
“The proposal to extend an existing school is acceptable in terms of scale, design and appearance and will not have any unacceptable impact on the character of the area or the amenities of nearby residential occupiers and would not adversely affect the highway network.”
