“HUG your children tight and never stop telling them you love them,” Brianna Ghey’s mum Esther said at her daughter’s vigil this afternoon.
The service to remember Brianna took place today, Sunday, which marks the one year anniversary of her murder.
Hundreds of mourners gathered at Old Market Place at Golden Square to remember the 16-year-old.
There were people as far as the eye could see.
The hour-long vigil heard moving tributes and statements from Brianna’s friends and family, including Esther.

“I really didn’t think I was going to be able to come on stage today but after seeing all of Brianna’s really brave and lovely friends come on and do that for her, I thought I better push myself as well,” Esther told those attending.
“So, as you have all heard, Brianna was a unique, amazing, and joyful teenager.
“I will be forever thankful that I was lucky enough to spend 16 years with her.
“She taught me so much and gave me so much happiness and love.
“If there is one piece of advice that I could give to any parent, it would be to hug your children tight and never stop telling them that you love them.
“I want to thank you all for coming here today to pay respect to Brianna.
“I hope that wherever she is now, that she can feel the love that we have created by joining together today.”
