RESIDENTS were evacuated from a Warrington hotel after a fire broke out.

The blaze was reported on Wednesday morning at around 10am at Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall.

One fire engine from Lymm Fire Station was dispatched to the Knutsford Old Road accommodations over reports of a fire in the roof space.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire was out on arrival.

Firefighters checked the area with a thermal imaging camera for hotspots, while a high-pressure fan was also used to clear the smoke.

The spokesman added: “The cause was reported accidental.”

It is understood that the fire broke out while roofing work was taking place at the hotel, with the fire caused by a heat gun which quickly spread to a storage room.

The fire was contained by hotel staff and the fire brigade arrived on site within minutes.

A full evacuation was successfully carried out and all guests and staff were accounted for.

After an hour, the fire brigade said it was safe to re-enter the hotel.

Fir Grove Hotel closed its doors to members of the public in November 2022 to accommodate migrants.
