CONGESTION is building on the approach to Mersey Gateway Bridge due to safety concerns.
Two lanes have been closed and there is queuing traffic on the A533 Mersey Gateway Bridge Southbound, Widnes, to Daresbury Express Way, Runcorn. Traffic is down to one lane travelling to Runcorn.
Cheshire Five Service are reportedly on the scene.
And Mersey Gateway, which operates the bridge, says the lanes have been closed due to 'safety concerns'.
They have apologised for any inconvenience.
Delays are being reported on roads across Widnes and Runcorn.
Lanes 1 and 2 on the Mersey Gateway Bridge heading southbound (Widnes to Runcorn) are currently closed due to safety reasons.
