A CHILDREN’S playground has reopened following a £40,000 makeover.

The transformation, funded by Warrington Borough Council, has breathed new life into the park on Alconbury Close in Great Sankey.

It has seen a tiny pocket park with limited play value turned into an exciting new space.

The playground is now fully equipped with a range of fantastic play equipment aimed at children aged 2-8, including a mini swing, elephant springy, spinning turnstile and ‘toddler express’ train.

There is a sign language play panel for children to use and they can also communicate with each other across the play area using ‘talking mobile phones’.

Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright, and Great Sankey South ward councillor, Mo Hussein, who has supported the project, joined youngsters to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished playground.

Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for leisure and communities, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “It’s so important for young people to have good quality outdoor play facilities, and the new-look Alconbury Close playground will certainly provide that.

“It’s a fantastic asset for the community, providing an excellent environment for children to get active and have fun.

“I’m delighted the refurbished playground is now officially open. I’m sure it will bring happiness to young people and their families for many years to come.”

Cllr Mo Hussein added: "It’s fantastic news that work is now complete on the new and improved Alconbury Close playground. It’s an important project for the community, and will bring health, social and wellbeing benefits to local children and families.

“This is a project I have been closely involved in from the start, so it’s wonderful to see the revamped playground now open for everyone to enjoy.”

The project was delivered by contractor Wicksteeds Leisure.
