AS we endure what seems to be England’s stormiest few months on record, it is nice to know there is a café only a short walk away from you where you can take the weight off your feet, get warm, have a nice hot cup of coffee and watch it pass.
Across town there are plenty of cafés and coffee shops to choose from but as the weekend draws in, we thought we would narrow it down for you with the top five best rated ones according to TripAdvisor.
They are as follows:
1) Heath’s Kitchen
Located on Walton Road in Stockton Heath, this friendly setting has been said to serve the ‘best breakfast’ in Warrington.
With a menu ranging from every type of hot breakfast included the much-raved-about ‘posh eggs’ to a good old English fry up, there is little to complain about.
One reviewer said: “Whilst back ‘home’ visiting friends we came her for breakfast today. Amazing- so friendly, a wide choice to cater for everyone. Hard to make a decision. Everything was just perfect.”
A little surprise at the end of the week is that they do also serve up a Sunday Roast – which is also highly praised by reviewers.
2) CJ'S Coffee House & Tearoom
Now we have had the best breakfast, so it would only be right to bring you the ‘best coffee in Warrington’ – as one reviewer says.
Located on Warrington Road, this charming tearoom delivers a traditional afternoon tea fit for a queen, served up in fine China, with fresh scones, cakes and big pot of English tea.
One reviewer called it a ‘hidden gem’, while another said: “Great service and superb produce. Well-presented and frankly delicious with a pleasant atmosphere and décor.
“We are already planning for afternoon tea after a delicious breakfast and pot of tea in China cups something I have not had in a long time.”
3) Cafe OCHO
This café is bursting with character and is stationed in Woolston on Dam Lane.
Reviewers award it five stars for its ‘wonderful’ atmosphere and ‘hearty’ breakfasts.
Their slogan ‘sandwich makers and proper coffee’ sets off to a promising start and the sandwich board lists their handmade eight signature double-decker doorstops with tasty fillings including roast beef, tuna mayonnaise, coronation chicken, crumbled feta and bacon and avocado.
You can also visit the standard breakfast menu for a humble bacon butty and there are plenty of different types of coffee on offer too.
One review said: “A fantastic place for a hearty breakfast, a warming soup (get there early or phone in beforehand to avoid disappoint) and eight brilliant triple-decker sandwiches with wonderful names. And very friendly, helpful staff and equally friendly customers.”
4) Rhode Island Coffee Warrington
‘Top quality coffee’ and friendly staff make this coffee shop a Warrington favourite.
Located in Golden Square Shopping Centre, this is the perfect pit stop after you’ve splashed some cash on the high street.
Several reviewers compliment the ‘warm’ environment that is made thanks to the kind staff.
A recent reviewer said: “Coffee always top quality. But what makes this place is staff friendliness. You feel like a valued customer, and that for regulars your order is already known.”
Having been running for more than two decades it’s no surprise why.
5) Sextons
Right beside the canal and in the quaint village of Lymm, Sextons village bakery and coffee shop is another local favourite.
The buns your bacon sits on have arrived fresh straight out of the oven, along with the pies, pastries and cakes.
But the real seller is the outstanding coffee served. One ‘self-confessed coffee snob’ and reviewer provided this praising account of their visit to Sextons.
“The current Mrs S greeted us with friendly efficiency, and we took our seats by the window. When we ordered a variety of bacon sandwiches and coffees from her, I proceeded to say that I wanted a double shot and described my perfect cuppa.
“Mrs S gently recommended that I trust her with her caffeine creation. ‘I’m so fussy’ I protested, but she reassured me and said that I could have another on her if I didn’t like it.
“Well reader, I needn’t have worried, Mrs S is a true caffeine connoisseur. I had a perfect, and I mean PERFECT, Long Black to accompany my toasted bacon, tomato and avocado sandwich.
“We were so impressed by Sexton’s coffee and hospitality that we determined to return the next day for ice cream.”
