MEET the Lymm woman who has furnished her new home using only Facebook Marketplace.
Becky Chorlton moved into her house with her boyfriend back in October.
As the duo are renting, they wanted to furnish the property in the cheapest way possible.
This was so they could save money and prevent waste if they didn’t end up keeping furniture once they eventually buy a home together.
So this is where the idea of using Facebook Marketplace came from.
It took around two to three months to find the majority of the furniture and it cost the couple just £500 to furnish their living room, kitchen, spare room and office.
In terms of how the process worked, Becky, who is a content creator, spent ‘pretty much every second’ on Facebook Marketplace.
The 25-year-old said: “I have always been into thrifting and shopping second hand, so whenever I saw something little that I really liked I would buy it and keep it aside.
“We only found out that we got accepted on the house a week before we moved in, so it was a little bit of a rush to find essentials like couches and dining tables.”
Some items proved harder than others to find. For instance, in Becky’s new house there are lights hanging down in the kitchen which are unable to be moved, so she needed a specific sized dining table.
After around two weeks of searching for a specific one, the couple found the perfect one which was a three-hour drive away.
Luckily Becky’s boyfriend has a van which they could collect the table in.
It is a seven food solid wood farmhouse dining table with chairs and a bench and cost just £150.
“I love it so much,” said Becky.
Becky enjoyed the whole process and would definitely use Facebook Marketplace to kit out her house again.
“I almost can’t wait to buy a house so I can do it all over again,” she said.
“It helps you save money, to find unique pieces, and to save the environment as the items are not being unnecessarily thrown away.
“It is a win, win.”
For anyone inspired by Becky’s Facebook Marketplace thrifting, she has shared some top tips.
“Check every day, be persistent when messaging, rent a van for a week if you know you’ll be collecting lots of items, and use key words if you are looking for something specific.”
Becky runs a vintage clothing business called Becky’s Bazaar. She documented her Facebook Marketplace quest on her social media which you can find here.
