AS time comes around again for Warrington’s primary schools to accept a new class of applications, we have summed up the most oversubscribed schools in the area.
A shocking 22% of Warrington’s primary schools were oversubscribed last year, with the worst case seeing 40% of applicants turned away.
This data is based on Government statistics covering the number of applicants who placed primary schools as their first choice, and how many of these made it in.
The most oversubscribed was Bruche Primary Academy. They received 50 applications but were only able to accept 30. This means that 40% of those who applied did not get in.
Next most oversubscribed was Woolston Community Primary School, with 17 applicants not being accepted. This saw 47 applications sent in for just 30 places.
Whilst there are many reasons a primary school may be oversubscribed, in some cases it appears to be that schools have become victims of their own success.
In recently revealed statistics showing the results for Key Stage 2 primary schools in Warrington, of the top five schools for meeting the expected standard in Reading, Maths, and Writing, three were oversubscribed.
This included Evelyn Street Primary Academy, where almost a quarter of applicants were unsuccessful, Grappenhall Heys Community Primary School, where the school was oversubscribed by nine, and Bruche Primary Academy, the highest performing Primary School.
