WARRINGTON'S two MPs have united to pay tribute to Brianna Ghey and her family following the guilty verdict of Girl X and Boy Y earlier today.
Brianna's local MP Charlotte Nichols has said that ‘No verdict can bring Brianna back to her loving family and friends’
Ms Nichols, MP for Warrington North, went on to say however that she ‘hope’s today’s verdict holding both killers jointly accountable for Brianna's murder will help bring a sense of closure, and mean we can remember Brianna as she lived and not for the awful circumstances in which she died.’
The trial into the murder of Brianna Ghey ended earlier today, with Girl X and Boy Y being found guilty.
Justice Amanda Yip has stated that she has no choice but to provide life sentences to both defendants, with her only consideration being the minimum they will have to serve before release can be considered.
The shocking murder, which took place in Culcheth Lineal Park on February 11, falls under Ms Nichols’ constituency. Brianna was stabbed 28 times in what prosecutors on the case described as a ‘frenzied’ attack.
Charlotte Nichols, MP for Warrington North, said: “No verdict can bring Brianna back to her loving family and friends, or repair the heartbreak her murder caused in our community.

“It is important nonetheless to see justice done, and I hope today’s verdict holding both killers jointly accountable for Brianna's murder will help bring a sense of closure, and mean we can remember Brianna as she lived and not for the awful circumstances in which she died. Her determination to live her life unapologetically as her authentic self, her humour and wit, and her kindness.
“I want to pay enormous tribute to Esther Ghey and Brianna's family for their courage and dignity in the face of unimaginable grief and trauma in the national and international media spotlight.
“I want to give thanks to all those in the criminal justice system who secured this prosecution and conviction, in very difficult circumstances, and those who have supported Brianna's family, friends and classmates to navigate these last ten months.
“My prayers are with all those who knew and loved Brianna, and all those who have been so profoundly affected by her senseless and untimely death.
“I hope Peace In Mind, the legacy project for Brianna, will continue to go from strength to strength with the support of our community as we remember her.”
United in their outpouring of love towards Brianna Ghey’s mother Esther in the aftermath of the guilty verdicts, MP for Warrington South Andy Carter has said Esther’s ‘commitment and tireless campaigning’ is a ‘wonderful legacy to Brianna’s memory’.
Mr Carter’s full statement on the guilty verdict reads: “Brianna’s murder shocked our town and its people to the core. Now that the jury has returned two guilty verdicts, I want to reiterate my thanks to Cheshire Police and the Officers who worked tirelessly and rapidly to apprehend these two young people who were responsible for such a heinous act.
“I also want to pay tribute to Brianna’s mum, Esther, who I’ve met a number of times since she’s faced this terrible ordeal.
“Her commitment and tireless campaigning to improve the mental health and mindfulness of young people in schools in Warrington is a wonderful legacy to Brianna’s memory, and I’m pleased to be able to continue to support her efforts for future generations across the Borough.”
