THE Christmas wishes of a sick child will come true thanks to the staff and pupils of a school in Fearnhead.

After St Bridget’s pupil Callum Walmsley, nine, was diagnosed with cancer in September, the school have been making plans to make sure he still has the most magical Christmas despite spending it in hospital.

Callum is undergoing intensive treatment at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

And staff and pupils have regularly visited him weekly at his hospital bed to lift his spirits.

As well as taking part in video calls to him over the months.

To ensure their classmate has the best Christmas, pupils decided they wanted to raise some money to send to Santa – to enable him to receive some presents he truly deserves.

Head of St Bridget’s, Ceri Dobson, said: “The children decided to arrange a Santa Dash.

“St Rocco’s supported us and donated a set of Santa suits for the children to wear and so far we have raised over £400 to make Callum’s Christmas wishes come true.”

Callum, who is a keen member of the choir, missed the performance at the recent Golden Square Winter Wonderland Launch due to him having his treatment.

Instead, the choir have visited him at Alder Hey this week and gave a heartfelt performance to sprinkle some Christmas cheer.

The generous members of St.Oswalds’ Community Centre held a fundraising evening to pay for the coach and also raised funds so that a cheque could be presented to Alder Hey on the day.

Ms Dobson added: “A real coming together of the community. Christmas spirit truly felt by everyone.

“Happy Christmas.”
