CHRISTMAS was at risk of being stolen in Warrington this weekend.
But the festive season looks to be safe after a suspect was arrested at Warrington Market earlier today, Sunday.
The arrest was made in good spirit by Cheshire Police officers patrolling the town centre when they came across The Grinch.
A video saw the infamous Christmas character stealing a jar of sweets from one of the stalls, before surprisingly gifting it to a passerby.
A social media post by the force’s Warrington Police team read: “During town centre high-visibility patrols, PC Fairhurst detained and arrested a person on suspicion of stealing Christmas.
“He identified himself to the officer as The Grinch.”
The post concluded with #ChristmasIsSafe.
The town centre was busy today thanks to the Christmas Maker’s Market being on in Time Square.
It was due to be held yesterday too, however strong winds brought by Storm Elin, it had to be cancelled for the day.
