WARRINGTON Borough Council has issued guidance and advice to residents who do not drive amid the ongoing bin strikes.
Since the beginning of October, four waves of bin strikes have been announced, with residents faced with the prospect of bins going unemptied up to Christmas Eve.
Warrington Borough Council tried to bring strikes to an end with a High Court challenge, but this proved unsuccessful.
This week, two temporary tips have been set up in Orford and Victoria Park, while regular tips have extended in some cases.
However, many residents say they are unable to reach the new temporary tips, as well as the regular ones, as they do not drive.
They say they cannot get on buses carrying bags full of rubbish.
We put the question to the council, which confirmed that it was able to send two bin lorries out today, Tuesday, to assist vulnerable residents such as those with mobility issues.
A council spokesman dded: “We understand that there are residents who cannot drive or do not own a car, but who also do not require assisted bin collections.
“We are sorry that, given the impact of the strikes by Unite and its members, the assistance we can offer these residents is very limited.
“We have seen offers of support from other residents, who have offered to collect and dispose of waste using their own vehicles.
“If you are able to use friends, family or neighbours to support you to dispose of your waste, we would encourage you to do so.
“Likewise, if you own a car and are able to support others to dispose of their waste, we would be grateful for your support.”
