TWO bin lorries have been sent out in Warrington today, Tuesday, to assist residents amid ongoing bin strikes.
Since the beginning of October, four waves of bin strikes have been announced, with residents faced with the prospect of bins going unemptied up to Christmas Eve.
Warrington Borough Council tried to bring strikes to an end with a High Court challenge, but this proved unsuccessful.
This week, two temporary tips have been set up in Orford and Victoria Park, while regular tips have extended in some cases.
In an update today, a council spokesman said: “Alongside the extended opening hours of our community recycling centres and the introduction of the two household waste drop-off points, we have been able to send out two bin crews today to support household waste collections.
“This is due to having available staff which, given the current uncertainties caused by the strikes, is difficult to predict.
“These bin crews will be prioritising collecting household waste for those who have registered for assisted bin collections or have medical issues that the council is aware of.
“Many of these residents are vulnerable, may have mobility issues and will need support to dispose of their waste. We will be prioritising support for these residents wherever possible.”
